My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Maybe I was too distracted by the beautiful one-liners and amazing prose, but I totally did not see the plot twist coming.

Also, I might not have read it if someone told me the plot twist but I encourage you to try anyway. It’s worth it.

A few I highlighted:

Emotional blows leave invisible bruises that can hurt just as much as the physical variety.

The second time I died was exactly five years after I was born.

My mother used to button up her resentment, but it has grown over the years, and no matter how much she tries to hide it, a little is always left on show. Life has sharpened her tongue, and she is no longer afraid to use it.
