This book surprised me in all the best ways. I was sucked in from the first page by the characters and I could NOT put it down. I binge-read the whole book in a day! It’s one of those books where the characters and their dialogue stay with you forever. Their stories, the humor, and the sweetness in the midst of some serious life complications will touch your heart and soul.
As a fellow knitter and yarn lover, I enjoyed how she slid knitting concepts in without overwhelming non-knitters. We have our own language like “stash” and “k2tog” but the reader will not be lost. In fact, non-knitters will be inspired to give it a try.
I also loved that the faith elements were subtle and I’d consider this a wonderful read for anyone. The spiritual theme is very much centered around setting aside our judgments long enough to be kind. It’s through kindness that we learn about the human inside.
The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady is outside my usual reading genre, but I met the author,
Sharon J. Mondragón at the ACFW 2023 Conference and just had to read her book. She is incredibly sweet, and her writing is phenomenal. I pray we see more from her in the future.
